Water Misting

In some fire risk areas the use of a water mist system may offer the optimum level of protection. A Water Mist system is a means of fire protection utilising a very fine water spray. Water is an outstanding physically-acting agent as a result of its exceptionally high heat absorbing capacity and latent heat of vaporization. Water Mist works to quench fire and hold damage to a minimum.

Firekill's Water Misting systems offer a flexible alternative or addition to traditional fire sprinkler systems. Water mistings systems have the advantage requiring lower volumes of water than traditional sprinkler systems which can mean pipework and storage systems are reduced. Water misting can also be stand stand alone with dedicated pumping and power.

Depending on the risk at hand we can vary nozzle design and pressure to alter the size of mist and create tailored energy absorption properties. Misting is an excellent way to protect against radiated heat and prevent fire spread as water expands around 1700 times in the phase transition from water to steam the amount of oxygen available for combustion is diluted to a level where the fire is extinguished right at the flame front. As the speed of heat absorption is a function of surface area and not volume, the small water mist droplets represent a large combined surface area and provide rapid heat absorption.

Additionally, water vapour will attenuate radiation to limit the propagation of fire to other areas while at the same time diminishing the overall heat radiation throughout the room.
