Dry and Wet Rising Mains Installation
Dry Risers are a vital piece of fire protection equipment for buildings above 18 metres. They are intended for use by the fire brigade or other trained personnel in the event of a fire.
They provide a readily available means of delivering considerable quantities of water to extinguish or prevent the spread of fire.
Dry risers are vertical mains fitted into staircase enclosures or other suitable positions, with outlet valves on each floor and inlets fitted at ground level to enable the fire brigade to connect to the water supply.
Wet risers are pipes kept permanently charged with water either from a storage tank (via a booster pump) or direct from the town's main water supply.
Firekill Systems can cost effectively install, service and maintain your risers for use in emergency situations.
It is a requirement that buildings above 18 metres high have dry or wet risers and for buildings above 60 metres high have wet risers.
The person responsible for a building or site is legally required to maintain all fire fighting equipment, including dry risers. The British Standard Code of Practice BS9990:2006 requires a full annual pressure test and six monthly visual check for dry risers for buildings above 18 metres and below 60 metres (buildings over 60 metres/18 storeys require wet risers).
Clause 7 of the Code states that inlets, landing valves, drain valves and landing valve boxes should be inspected every 6 months and recommends that wet tests be carried out annually when the main can be checked for leaks.
BS9990:2006 also states that maintenance and repairs should be carried out by a competent person. With Firekill you can be confident that all work will be carried out in accordance with the Code of Practice.
Firekill can help you meet your legal requirements by cost effectively install, service and maintain your risers for use in emergency situations and avoid any serious penalties.
In accordance with BS5306 and BS9990, all Dry Riser Systems should be Hydraulically Pressure Tested following installation. We carry out these tests following all our installations or remedial works and issue our Customers with the appropriate Commissioning and or Test Certificate.
Service and Maintenance
In accordance with British standards and to avoid any damaging leaks Firekill can arrange the following service tests:
Firekill - Annual Wet Test
Dry and wet risers are checked and pressure tested to 150 PSL or 10 bar for a minimum of 15 minutes. All insets and outlets are checked for leaks and any missing or faulty items replaced. Flow testing is also carried out. If any valves have to be replaced a further pressure test will be carried out before certification is issued.
Firekill - Six Monthly Visual Test
This test involves a visual inspection only as required by BS9990:2006 and any missing or damaged items are replaced.
Firekill - Dry Riser Testing - Private Hydrant Test
For large premises with hydrants on sites, Morgan Fire Protection will test flow meter rates and carry out a visual inspection of the location, H plate, cover and frost valve. BS9990:2006 clause 7 requires checking of pits, frames, covers and surface paving round edges of frames.
